DOORS CLOSED!
[Friday - July 20, 2008]

The Dojo Is On The Move

The doors have closed temporarily while we make arrangements for another facility. Negotiations over a breach in contract by the building's ownership has failed to yield positive results. Therefore, a hard decision had to be made. It was difficult, but inevitable that we would eventually close these doors to move to another building. We just have to do it a little earlier than planed.

We will be cleaning out the dojo this week, storing the mats and other items, and starting an earnest effort to find the next location for our training hall. We are not discouraged !! We are determined to reopen as soon as possible. But we are also looking for an opportunity that will produce an optimal outcome.

We will keep you updated on our progress, and post any changes in status on this website.

Best Regards,
The BSDA Ownership and Instructional Staff.

AJA GETS NEW COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
[Saturday - June 19, 2008]

AJA Chairman - Prof. George Kirby announced today that the American Ju-Jitsu Association, which has been undergoing some personnel changes, has accepted Michale Pollack as its new Communications Director.

Mr Pollack, a student of the Budoshin School of Defensive Arts,  stated that he was eager to assist the AJA in furthering its position in public media, and feels that he is well suited for the role. Pollack has several years experience in public relations and ownership of a small business that specialized in web based media and marketing. He is also in a unique position that allows him to communicate more effectively due to his close working relationship with the AJA Western Regional Director and the Western Regional Tournament Coordinator.

Congratulation Mr Pollack! We look forward to your contributions.

A Surprise Visit
[Thursday - June 12, 2008]

In a surprise visit, Sensei Mason Yohn and his lovely wife Katie showed up unannounced Thursday evening. Although several dojo regulars were missing form class, those in attendance were thrilled by the appearance of our dojo's favorite martial arts couple. It was also especially good timing according to BSDA head instructor Tony Damigo, who has been suffering form an undetermined medical issue of the lower back.

Mr. Yohn jumped right in with both feet (Whoooo-ya!) like he had never left... and assisted with two of our adult classes.

Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to once again work with Mason and Katie on the mats, and we look forward to seeing them again real soon (hint hint !!)

2008 AJA WESTERN REGIONAL SPRING TOURNAMENT - LOCAL RESULTS
[Saturday - May 31, 2008]

This year's American Ju-Jitsu Association - Western Regional Spring Tournament was held in Santa Clarita, CA. inside the College of the Canyon's [west PE] Gym. There was a great showing of students and supporters, and the event turned out to be one of the best I've seen in years. If you weren't able to make it, you really missed out.

CONGRATULATION TO:

Michel Pollack --  Second Place Advanced Division (Brown Belt)
Ronnie Lail      --  First Place Junior Intermediate Division (Blue Belt)

HARD WORK PAYS OFF
[Wednesday - Nov 14, 2007]

The Budoshin School of Defensive Arts is proud to acknowledge the scholastic accomplishments of its students. To that end we wish to congratulate Ronnie Lail for receiving an Academic Achievement Award for 6th grade at South Fork Middle School, in California's Kern River Valley.

Ronnie is pictured here with his proud Grandmother. Together they formed a pact. Ronnie could remain in Ju-Jitsu as long as he keep up good grades. Ronnie is working hard toward passing his Rokyu (Green Belt) exam. We are pleased that he is working just as diligently in school and applaud him for being the Top Academic Student in his class.

FALL TOURNAMENT UPDATE
[Sunday - Nov 3, 2007]

In spite of several unforeseen issues, this year's AJA - Western Regional Championship Tournament went very well. Competitors eagerly awaited the start of the event as the final preparations gave way to the traditional bow-in on the mats. Eleven of these competitors came form our little dojo here in the Kern River Valley; all of which did a fantastic job displaying their Ju-Jitsu skills. Of that group four of our members placed and came home with trophies; they are: Scott Newbern (1st place Brown Belt Division), Will Sherman (2nd place Brown Belt Division), Cameron Lanterman (2nd place Intermediate Division for 4th and 5th kyu), and Levi Pollack (3rd place Beginners Division for 7th kyu).

Congratulations to all my students. All of you are winners in my eyes!

Tony Damigo / Instructor

SENSEI YOHN SETTLES INTO HIS NEW LIFE & JOB
[Monday - Oct 15, 2007]

Not too long ago Mr. Mason Yohn led classes and provided many services for our dojo here in Lake Isabella. As a long time student of mine he was seen as a regular fixture around the dojo and was always willing to lend a hand. Mason and his lovely wife Katie (a yonkyu in Ju-Jitsu) moved away form the dojo, but not out of our hearts. I'm happy to say that they are doing well and adjusting to married life.

Mr. Yohn is now working / teaching out of a popular gymnasium in Arizona. He has taken a job as a personal fitness trainer and a teacher of Budoshin Ju-Jitsu. There's also talk of his dojo joining the American Ju-Jitsu Association. As a regional director for the AJA I'd like nothing more!  We wish him great success in all his endeavors!
